Obituary for Travis Eugene Harraid

Travis Eugene Harraid
Athens –Funeral services for Travis Harraid, 85, of Malakoff, Texas, are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating.

Travis Eugene Harraid, was born in Bullard, Texas, on April 20, 1929, and passed away peacefully at his home in Malakoff, Texas, on April 18, 2015.
His parents, Nettie and Allen Harraid; brothers, John and Charles Harraid; sister, Helen Harraid Pritchard; and great-granddaughter, Ella Faith Stukas, preceded him in death.
Travis retired after 20 years of distinguished service with the U.S. Air Force. Stationed throughout the world, he made stops in Guam, Puerto Rico, and across the United States. His time of service was during the height of the Cold War, the heyday of Strategic Air Command and the nation’s nuclear bomber force, where he managed the officer’s club. Following his retirement, Travis utilized his management skills developed in the Air Force and began a career in what he referred to as “the entertainment business,” where he managed and oversaw numerous hotels for both Holiday Inn and Ramada Inn. One of his favorites was the first “round” Holiday Inn in Austin, Texas, on the Colorado River. After his second retirement, he started Harraid & Son Trucking Company with his eldest son, Allen. Following his third retirement, Papa T enjoyed RV travels across the United States with family and friends.
Travis enjoyed working with his hands, rebuilding old trailers, campers, and a multitude of other projects. Mornings would first find Travis at the coffee shop and shortly thereafter at his son Jeff’s shop, working on the next project. Mellowing with age, Travis enjoyed listening to gospel music and attending tent revivals in his RV. His hobbies included quail, pheasant, and goose hunting and fishing. One of his favorite things to do was attending annual motorcycle rallies with his youngest son, Jeff. Travis looked forward to each spring when the mowing season began. He just loved to mow, especially on his new zero-turn mower.
Travis is survived by his children Allen Eugene Harraid and wife Lisa, Kim Page and husband Steve, Jeff Harraid and wife Kippi; the mother of his children Addie Marie Harraid, brother Bob Harraid, Sr. and wife Lois, and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandchildren loved their Papa T: Kent Harraid, Kammi Harraid, Courtney Stukas and husband Jason, Kendall Hoover and husband C.J., Carter Harraid, Amy Sullivan Fulgham, Andrea Callahan and her children, Chris Weatherford and wife Wendy, Justin Weatherford and Heather, Russell Page, Ryan Page and wife Blair. Travis was blessed with a flock of great grandchildren: Brock, Brant, Allie, and Lilly Stukas; Hudson and Hollis Hoover; Madison Alexander; Morgyn and Molly Fulgham; Blake Page; and Abby Weatherford.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 10-11:00 A.M. at Hannigan-Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
