Grandma

When I think of grandma, I'll always remember a few things. She loved her family, she loved Jesus, and she loved solitaire. I'll always remember going to see grandma and grandad at their place down north of Austin. It's funny. If I'm being honest, I always dreaded that trip as a kid because I always knew it meant EARLY morning wake up, gardening, and televangelists on TV. Now, those are some precious memories. Grandma was a bird of a different feather. I was usually relegated to the couch when we visited and that meant grandma up at 5 am holding a very one sided conversation with me from the oven, telling me sprites while I slept, or tried to. :) She was always working in that kitchen. Preparing food for her family. She really had a servants heart. Grandma always had some televangelist on TV too. It used to drive me nuts, but now I realize she just really loved Jesus and wanted as much as was available. The rare times she wasn't cooking or working, grandma could be found with her lap board and a deck of cards, playing solitaire. The TV was most likely playing some sermon in the background or she was telling some story as she flipped cards to match black and white and line up the numbers. I may not have appreciated it as a kid, but grandma loved us, and I'll miss her for now. Grandma, I know you got the welcome we all long for when you meet Jesus and he said "well done, my good and faithful servant."
