Obituary for William Coy Terrell

Funeral services for William Coy Terrell, 94, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Olin Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Terrell passed away January 29, 2021 in Athens.

William Coy Terrell was born July 28, 1926 in Chandler, Texas, the son of Clyde Terrell and Willie Grace (Gideon) Terrell. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Philippines during WWII before being honorably discharged in 1946 as a Corporal. Coy was a rancher/farmer who loved riding horses and working cattle. He was a devoted family man who spent his life loving and working for his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Francis and Katherine Terrell; one son Theodore “Ted” Wallace Terrell; three brothers, John, Freeman and Rex Terrell and one sister Nadine Spivey.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Carnes and husband David of Athens; one sister Carolyn Douglas of Poynor; two sisters-in-law, Julia Terrell of LaRue, Linda Terrell of Frankston; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made in Mr. Terrell’s memory to the Cedar Creek Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
