Obituary for Wanda Ola Richardson (Sifford)

A private family funeral service for Wanda Richardson, 99, of Athens, will be held at New York Baptist Church with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating and interment will follow at New York Cemetery.

Ms. Richardson went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 10, 2020 in Athens.

Wanda Ola (Sifford) Richardson was born August 11, 1921 in Godley, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Andrew Sifford and Novice Poole Sifford. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps on September 1, 1943 and proudly served in Naples(Foggia) and in Rome(Arno) with the WAC Headquarters Company until receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the WAAC Service Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with Two Bronze stars and an honorable discharge in July of 1945. Wanda was a member of the Shady Oaks Baptist Church. She was known as a hard-worker who loved cooking, quilting playing Bingo at Lakeland House with her friends. Wanda spent many wonderful years traveling to every state in the US and over 13 foreign countries which was one of her favorite things to do. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, W.C. “Jelly” Richardson; son Richard Richardson; two brothers; two sisters; sons-in-law, Jerry Davis and Donald Nunn.

Survivors include children, Roberta Davis of Cross Roads, Lila Boyd and husband Butch of Athens, W.C. Richardson, Jr. of San Marcos; three siblings, Tom Sifford of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, LaVonne Luedke of Dallas, Larry Sifford of Dallas; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Richardson family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Lakeland House for the amazing love and care they have shown our momma.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the New York Cemetery Association.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
