Obituary for Timothy Lavon Tyler

Funeral services for Timothy Tyler, 58, of Athens, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2022, at Carroll Springs United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Springs Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Tyler passed away on April 24, 2022, in Tyler, Texas.

Timothy Lavon Tyler was born April 4, 1964, in Athens, Texas, the son of Curtis Tim Tyler, Jr. and Glenda Sue (Thomas) Tyler. He was born into a large family with three older sisters and a younger brother and sister to follow. Tim loved and was protective of his family and, although he never had children of his own, contributed to raising many nieces, nephews, and other children who adopted him as their Uncle Tim. He was a truck driver for most of his life and loved his work, most recently working with Hurt’s Asphalt of Athens. Tim enjoyed cooking and was a collector of many gadgets that he enjoyed tinkering with. He was a big teddy bear and will be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Tyler, Jr.; brother, Jody Miller, and brother-in-law, Hal Herring.

Survivors include his mother, Sue Tyler of Waskom; siblings, Debbie Ramsey and husband Raymond of Waskom, Vickie Herring of Waskom, Kim Cole and husband David of Waskom, Tracie Underwood and husband Chann of Haughton, Louisiana, along with numerous nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Hurt, Keelan Ramsey, Jay Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Jason Lopez, James Greathouse, Justin Halbert, and Branson Dodd. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cole, Shane Ramsey, Jason Gould, and April Watts.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
