Obituary for Sue Paroline (Meador)
Donna Sue Meador Paroline peacefully passed from this Earth on March 22, 2020 in Malakoff, TX. She was born on October 21, 1941 in Iowa Park, TX and lived across the USA with her family as a child before they settled in Cayuga, TX in her teen years. While attending Henderson County Junior College, Sue met her soulmate, Gayland Paroline. With the promise that he would build her a house and never make her move again, they married in 1961 and lived happily for over 50 years in the house he built her between Shady Oaks and Athens.
Sue touched many lives during her years at the Henderson County District Clerk’s Office (1970-80) then at East Texas Medical Center from which she retired as Admissions Director in 2006. She also shaped the lives of many children and young adults through her tireless support of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
Setting an example long before it was the norm, Sue exceptionally balanced having a career with being a wife, mother and grandmother. She prepared a home cooked meal for her family every day until she retired and baked her famous apple cakes for many bake sales in the area. She also enjoyed reading and working in her yard.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Paulene Meador; her husband, Gayland Paroline; and her siblings Lavada Jenkins and Frank Meador.
Those left behind to mourn her passing are her children Robert (Robbie) Paroline and his wife Kim, and Gina Paroline and her wife Pam; her grandchildren Keith and Amber Marquez, Paul and Stacey Marquez, Tara and James Jones, Carson Paroline and his fiancé Sarah Waxter; her great grandchildren Alexis, Kadence, Abby, Reese, and Pierce; several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Sue’s family wishes to thank Ms. Penny McCan who helped Sue and her family tremendously, to the caregivers at Genesis ExtraCare who enabled us to have Momma at home a precious week we will forever appreciate, and the wonderful staff at Cedar Lake Nursing Home and Rehab who cared for her as if she was their own family.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held once the world returns to a safe place where families and friends can gather without fear of illness.
Sue was a devoted dog lover and she was especially attached to Tara’s little dog, Havok, who was a tireless support dog for both her and Gayland when their health began to fail. In lieu of flowers, Sue would have been touched to know you donated instead to the Henderson County Animal Shelter.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
