Obituary for Sonja Ray Rigsby (Hanks)
Funeral services for Sonja Rigsby, 61, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at County Line Cemetery.
Sonja passed away October 20, 2021.
Sonja Ray (Hanks) Rigsby was born January 15, 1960 in Athens, the daughter of Raymond and Opal (Satterfield) Hanks. She graduated from Athens High School and spent a career working as a boiler maker with Fluor and WarFab. Sonja was a member of the Carroll Springs United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking for others, gardening and loved her animals. Sonja was an adventurer and free spirit who enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Anthony Ray Hanks.
Survivors include son, Ray Rigsby and wife Melissa of Athens; grandchildren, Taylee, Cason and bonus granddaughter, Zuri; best friends for life, Beth Bailey, Melinda Carroll; special nieces, Tiffany, Baleigh Due and Karleigh Due; her beloved cat, Chanel as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Hanks, Chris Holman, Charles Turner, Randy Satterfield, Justin Halbert and James Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Hanks, Shawn Hanks, Blain Faulk, Dawson Turner, JT Trammell, Randy Wilbanks, Gary Harris, Mike Satterfeld and Charles Koepf.
A visitation will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
