Obituary for Sidney Stanford Sneed Jr.

Funeral services for Sidney Sneed, Jr., 82, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Troy Hollingsworth and Pastor Larry Fondren officiating.

Mr. Sneed went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 3, 2021 in Tyler.

Sidney Stanford Sneed, Jr. was born February 23, 1939 in Oakwood, Texas, the son of Sidney Stanford Sneed, Sr. and Blanche (Netymach) Sneed. He served in the National Guard during the 1950’s and the Army National Guard during the 1960’s. Sidney was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and worked with TxDot for over 20 years as a heavy machine operator. He loved music and could play the piano, harmonica, guitar and saxophone. Sidney also enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and bowling in his younger days. Most importantly, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Terri Lynn Feagins; siblings, Jerry Thomas Sneed, Maudie McCool, Floyd Sneed, Nancy Mahl, Charles Sneed, Bobby Sneed, Roland Chamberlain and one infant brother.

Survivors include wife, Virginia Sneed of Athens; children, Larry Don McClure and wife Frances of Athens, Michael Todd Sneed and wife Melendy of Athens, Kelly Alexander and husband Eddie of Athens; siblings, William “Bill” Sneed and wife Peggy of Dallas, Arlis Sneed and wife Linda of Mineola, Laura Wood of Irving, Barbara Sorter of Bandera; grandchildren, Jarrod Wilson and wife Kim, Tabitha Pittman, Jonathan Feagins and wife Crystal, Dalton Sneed and fiancé Sydney, Michaela Sneed, Tiffany Gandy and husband Jamie, Brittany Walker, Natalee Lee, Kyle Alexander and 12 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
