Obituary for Shirley Christina Thompson (Pugh)

Funeral Services for Shirley Thompson, 83, of Cross Plains, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Olin Boles officiating. Interment will follow at New York Cemetery near Larue.

Mrs. Thompson passed away on February 1, 2020 in Cisco.

Shirley Christine Thompson was born February 11, 1936 in Edom, Texas the daughter of Major Allen Pugh and Bertha Lueller Lambright Pugh. She was a long time member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas, active in both the church’s Senior Adult Ministry club and in teaching Sunday School, working with young people and often took the youth on mission trips to Mexico and Glorieta, New Mexico. Shirley loved quilting and was a member of the Pioneer Quilting Club. Later in life she enjoyed listening to audio books, traveling and especially spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Linda Sue Howeth; seven brothers and one sister.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband James Thompson of Cross Plains; daughters, Sandra Terrell and husband Allen of Larue, Paula Nichols and husband Tim of Neches; four sisters, Oleta Nixon of Ben Wheeler, Juanita Adkins of Tyler, Verna Smith and husband Mike of Canton, Ruth Barrett of Van; one brother Ray Pugh of El Paso; three grandchildren, DeAnn Smith, Shelly Tanner and husband Todd, Allison Terrell; six great grandchildren, Haylee Simmons and husband Ansley, Maddison Feagins, Kinsey Feagins, Cooper Tanner, Charlie Tanner, Kingston Terrell and two great-great grandchildren, Gavin Simmons and Karsyn Simmons.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 6-8:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the West Texas Rehab of Abilene, Texas.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
