Obituary for Sarah Elizabeth Clanton (Whitfield)
Funeral services for Sarah Clanton, 91, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Jones and Bro. Chuck Hinton officiating.
Ms. Clanton went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Sarah Elizabeth (Whitfield) Clanton was born January 30, 1930 in Melissa, Texas the daughter of William McKinley Whitfield and Ethel Julie (Gober) Whitfield. She was a member of the Faith Church in Athens who loved going to church and spending time studying the word every morning. Sweet Sue was a dedicated member of TOPS and was proud of Keeping off Pounds for over 30 years. MeMe was a homemaker in every sense of the word, spending her time taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren and she took great joy in decorating her home in all of the seasonal colors. Susie Q will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Morgan G. Clanton Sr.; sister Melba Ruth McNeese; brother J.W. Whitfield and daughter-in-law Susan Farr Clanton.
Survivors include her three children, Morgan G. Clanton Jr., of Athens, Billy Lee Clanton of Palestine, Sherry Clanton Lewis and husband Charlie of Ft. Worth; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Lewis, Morgan Lee Clanton, Landen Decker, Bryan Cleveland and Rollie Reaves.
A visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in her memory to the VFW Post 4133 in Trinidad, Texas.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
