Obituary for Roy Gore

Funeral services for Roy Gore, 80, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Eastern Hills Church of Christ with Pastor Eric Thornton officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Oakwood, Texas under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Gore went to be with his Lord and Savior November 18, 2020 in Tyler.

Roy Gerald Gore was born September 14, 1940 in Oakwood, the son of Alfred Wilburn Gore and Viola Mae (Redding) Gore. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, serving as Elder for the congregation in Conroe at Frazier Street Church of Christ as well as the Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens. Roy loved spending time with the Lord in prayer and reading his bible and has read his bible from beginning to end at least 35 times. In the 1960’s, Roy began working in the HVAC industry in South Houston before starting Roy’s Air Conditioning in Conroe and later moving to Athens, where he also started, owned and operated Roy’s Air Conditioning. He was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and playing games with family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Ida Dale Rabon, George Lloyd Gore, Howard Lee Gore and Jenora Sue Duck.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Louise Gore of Athens; children, Natalie Smith and husband Lee of Birmingham, Alabama, Philip Gore and wife Tyna of Athens, Alice Fraley and husband Matt of Midway; brother, Oren Mack Gore and wife Betty of Athens; eight grandchildren, Wanda Claire Smith Hills and husband Chris, Anna Redding Smith, Hayden Reed Gore, Lauryn Mae Gore, Reagan Glen Gore, Clayton Matthew Fraley and wife Jordan, Carson Sheppard Fraley, McKenna Marie Fraley; two great grandbabies on the way and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers will be Hayden Gore, Reagan Gore, Clayton Fraley, Carson Fraley, Chris Hills and Allan White. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Ahlgrimm, Don Wilson.

A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Eastern Hills Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Hills Community Care Food Pantry, where he spent many hours volunteering, at P.O. Box 1997, Athens, Texas 75751.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
