Obituary for Robert Jimmy Vasquez

A Funeral Mass for Robert Vasquez, Sr., 75, of Murchison, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the St. Edward’s Education and Ministry Center with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. Interment will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Murchison under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Vasquez passed away October 13, 2021 in Athens.

Robert Jimmy Vasquez, Sr. was born March 16, 1946 in Ennis, the son of Jesse Vasquez and Dominga (Vasquez) Vasquez. He was a member of the St. Edward’s Catholic Church of Athens and spent 14 years volunteering in prison ministry. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and playing baseball. He was a wonderful husband, father and ‘Paw Paw’ to his grandchildren who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Juilo Vasquez, Mike Vasquez, Joe Vasquez, John Vasquez, Florence Garza, Maria Santos; son, James Vasquez; grandchildren, Jesse Vasquez, Jose Munoz and great grandchildren, Avianah Munoz and Jaycen Munoz.

Survivors include wife of 47 years, Brenda Vasquez of Murchison; children, Diego Vasquez and wife Norma of Rice, Joseph Vasquez of Palestine, John Vasquez and wife Tammy of Palestine, Robert Vasquez, Jr. of Athens, Demetrius Vasquez and wife Robyn of New Braunfels, Noah Vasquez and wife Alisa of Murchison; siblings, Luis Vasquez and wife Tomasa of Corsicana, Raymond Vasquez and wife Andrea of Rice, Juana Olade and husband Ray of Ennis, Elvira Espinosa of Ennis, Bauldelia Guzman and husband Santiago of Mesquite; grandchildren, Erica Vasquez, Marcus Vasquez, A’Leah Vasquez, Joseph Vasquez, Dustin Vasquez, Devri Salazar, John Vasquez, Andrew Vasquez, Nathan Vasquez, Emilee Vasquez, Robert Vasquez III, Danielle Vasquez, Ashton Vasquez, Mackenzie Morris, Ethaylee Vasquez, Ethan Vasquez, Landon Morris, Gracie Vasquez, Mikylah Vasquez and numerous great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
