Funeral services for Robert C. “Bobby” Cooper, 82, of Athens, are scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Cooper passed away February 6, 2021 in Tyler.
Robert Carlton Cooper was born September 30, 1938 in Americus, Georgia, the son of John R. Cooper and Sara (Gee) Cooper. He graduated from Plains High School in Plains, Georgia and worked all over the United States including Georgia, Alabama, Ohio and Texas before retiring after 30 years from Redman Homes as a supervisor. Coop then began his career working visitations and funeral services with his new family at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home and served many, many families in the area for over 14 years. He was a dedicated member and Deacon of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Athens serving for over three decades. Papa loved smoking meats and cooking unique foods, taking road trips with his family and spent his entire life doing his favorite thing, fishing. Coop loved everyone he met and he will truly be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Cooper and sister, Becky Cooper Gentry.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Lora Wayne Cooper of Athens; children, Teresa Cooper Hughes of Tyler, Richard Carlton Cooper and wife Tracey of Saginaw; brother, John Montgomery and wife Kathy of Georgia; grandchildren, Colleen M. Hughes of Tyler, Clarissa M. Hughes of Tyler, Savanna Ryan and husband John of Katy, Sy A. Cooper of Ft. Worth, Celie Cooper Price and husband Logan of Gainesville; great grandchildren, Reece Ryan, Remington Ryan, Judson Price and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Reggie Coker, Leman Hargrove, Will Traxson, Andel Wagoner, Buddy Alston, Robbie Cooper, Rick Concotelli and Darrell Jones.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
