Obituary for Rebekah Eugenee Defoore

A celebration of the life of Rebekah Defoore, 73, of Tool, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Erick Graham officiating.

Ms. Defoore passed away May 12, 2020 in Tool.

Rebekah Eugenee Defoore was born February 24, 1947 in Waxahachie, the daughter of Olen Mason Defoore and Elsie Mae (Loosier) Defoore. She was raised in Brownsboro and graduated from Brownsboro High School. After getting married in 1966, she moved to Athens and raised her children, Regina Faye Shirey, Rebekah Michelle Shirey and Russell Wayne Shirey. She attended TVCC where she studied horticulture and graduated with honors in Applied Science. Rebekah loved plants, working in the yard, cooking, embroidery and was a gifted artist. She was an active member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and was a loving Mama, Mema, Nana and Sister. She raised her sister and brother, Rhonda and Robert, and thought of them as her own. She also helped raise her three grandsons and was proud to see them grow up into fine young men.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Elsie Defoore; son, Russell Wayne Shirey; sister, Patricia Ann Pennock; nephews, John Defoore and Robbie Knighton.

Survivors include daughters, Regina Faye Shirey of Tool, Rebekah Michelle Woodruff and son-in-law Eugene of Athens; brother, Amon Defoore and wife Robbie of Tyler; grandsons, Albert Cecil and Krystle Cooey of Schell City, Missouri, James Mason Cooey of Tool, Delwin Wayne Cooey of Tool; great grandson, Jaxson Mychael Cooey of Clinton, Utah; great granddaughter, Leila Poston of Clinton, Utah; sister, Rhonda Knighton and Mark Allman of Antlers, Oklahoma; and brother, Robert Defoore and wife Kathy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
