Obituary for Patrick "Patty" Blong

Memorial services for Patrick “Patty” Blong, 36, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Rev. Jason Smith officiating.

Mr. Blong passed away September 13, 2020 in Athens.

Patrick Robert Blong was born April 27, 1984 in Orange, California, the son of Robert Edward Blong and Yvette Suzanne (This) Blong. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Athens and was a heavy haul tow truck driver for Holt Wrecker, following in his father’s footsteps who also worked as a tow truck driver in California. Patty was a jokester who loved pig hunting when he needed an excuse to shoot his guns, playing Call of Duty with his buddies and participating in Fantasy Football, where he was proudly a multi-year champion. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was active in his children’s sports events and activities. Patty will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Aaron Caldwell and Michael Caldwell.

Survivors include wife, Holly Shumate Blong of Athens; mother, Yvette Blong of Arlington; three children, Jamie Shumate, Kadence Blong, Edward Blong all of Athens; siblings, Lori Hernandez and husband Israel of Redding, California, Tim Blong and Chuck Jantzen of Katy, Nikki Silva and husband Eddie of Arlington, Andrea Raitt and husband Mike of Arlington, Berta Winn and husband Tres of Athens and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 9-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made to the Blong Children College Fund at First State Bank of Athens.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Holt Wrecker Family, Grandpa Leroy Odom, Mike Raitt, Eddie Silva, Tres Winn, James Graham and Bruiser Arnold.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
