Obituary for Patrena Paul (Ervin)

Funeral services for Patrena Paul, 64, of Athens are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Allen Chapel AME Church of Athens, with Rev. Michael Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Barker Cemetery in Baxter under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Ms. Paul passed away on March 21, 2022, in Athens.

Patrena (Ervin) Paul was born October 2, 1957, in Athens, the daughter of Bruce Ervin and Juanita (Dunnington) Ervin. She graduated from Athens High School in 1976 and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Trena worked for California Girl in Athens from the late 80s to early 90s before earning her CNA certification and working in home health for over 20 years throughout Henderson County. Her sole purpose in life was to be a caregiver to her family, friends, and patients. Trena will be remembered as gentle, kind, compassionate, lovable, and strong-willed. Known as “Sugga Mama”, “MeMaw” and “Una” to her grandchildren and “Bertha” to her niece, Trena’s remarkable legacy as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend will live on in the lives of those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lilly Dunnington; brother, Kenneth Ervin and Brandy’s father, Jerry Paul.

Trena is survived by her two children, Raynette Fields and husband Jim of Edna, Brandy Paul-Friendly of Athens; bonus children, Jerry Paul, Jr. of Hayes, Kansas, Jeremy Paul of Athens, Cecilia Blakemore of Athens; siblings, Jeniece Tutt of Athens, Rondy Ervin and wife Perla Hernandez of Athens, Tammy Walker-Polk of Trinidad, Raymond Dawson of Trinidad; grandchildren, Cameron Ervin, Amber Brown, Asia Brown, Kishari Friendly, Keileigh Friendly; granddog, Khlobe Paul; niece and nephews, Kanita Ervin-Ringgold, Marcus Ervin, Angelo Ervin; great nephews, Eric Ervin, Stephen Adkins, Nicholas Adkins; best friend, Charlene Sowers-Givens and special friends, Vickie Williams, Quivoria Mayse, Barbara Rhinehart-Barlow, Ava Glaspie, Edwina Gail Allen, Charles Moorehead, Dewayne Hannah, Joe Sullivan and Larry Houston.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Ervin, Stephen Adkins, Nicholas Adkins, Jeremy Paul, Jamison Paul, and Jathan Mewbourne. Honorary pallbearers will be Rondy Ervin, Cameron Ervin, Thomas Franks, and Marcus Ervin.

A visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
