A memorial celebration for Pat Stratman, 82, of Malakoff, will be scheduled for a later date. A private interment will be held in the Malakoff City Cemetery under direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Stratman passed away April 13, 2020 in Athens.
Pat Murray Stratman was born November 24, 1937, the son of Bernard Emil Stratman and Velma Alyne (Murray) Stratman. He was a skilled draftsman at Hardwicke-Etter in Sherman; the Murray Company and Murray-Carver in Dallas; and Maxim Medical in Athens. As a young man, he played football at Kilgore College and successfully competed in Golden Gloves boxing, even after enduring rigorous treatment for polio. He and his wife, Bertha, celebrated their faith at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Mesquite and at the First United Methodist Church in Malakoff. They were happily married for over 58 years. His family wishes to thank the staff of Oak Wood Senior Living in Athens for his good care in the two years before his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Alyne Stratman; sisters-in-law, Sybil Stratman and Patricia Morris; brothers-in-law, Mario Morris and Gustavo Morris; and niece, Shelly (Stratman) Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Stratman of Malakoff; daughter, Karen Stratman and her partner Melinda Schnare and grandson Daren of Silver Spring, Maryland; brothers, Bernie Stratman of Austin and Rodney Stratman and his wife Pat Hudnall of Bossier City, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Ricardo Morris and his wife Aida of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to any effort to contain COVID-19, as no family should have to bury a loved one during a pandemic.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
