Obituary for Norma Jean O'Neal

Services for Norma O’Neal, 83, of Athens, are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with David Mahan officiating.

Mrs. O’Neal passed away September 26, 2021 in Athens.

Norma Jean (Wilson) O’Neal was born September 13, 1938 in Athens, the daughter of Roy Wilson and Anna Belle (Troublefield) Wilson. She was a member of Virginia Hill Baptist Church and worked for Bethel Ash Water Department as an office manager for over 10 years. Norma also worked for the Texas Department of Corrections for over 5 years. She was a true pioneer woman who loved farming, raising cattle, sewing and knitting. Norma also enjoyed researching genealogy during her free time. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max “Jake” O’Neal and daughters, Gail O’Neal and Peggy O’Neal.

Survivors include son, James O’Neal of Athens; siblings, Anette Trammell of Athens, Betty Hollowell of Athens, Nancy Smith of Athens, Jerry Wilson and wife Pat of Dallas; grandchildren, Justin O’Neal and wife Jillian of Magnolia, Ashley McDonald and husband Gregory of Athens; great grandchildren, Tristan O’Neal, Kylie O’Neal, Preston O’Neal, Elijah McDonald and Wyatt McDonald.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 from 3-4:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
