Funeral services for Nolen Wilson, Sr., 93, of Athens, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor James Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Davis Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson passed away on April 9, 2022, in Athens.
Nolen Edgar “Punk” Wilson, Sr., was born September 20, 1928, in Canton, the son of Dell Wilson and Ethel Mae (Smith) Wilson. He worked as an ironworker out of California for over 30 years before retiring and moving to Texas. Mr. Wilson opened a mechanic shop and was very skilled in using tools and working on automobiles. Punk enjoyed working and spending time on his land, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Virginia Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Wilson was a man of great character who loved his family and will always be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Deborah Virginia Gill, Lisa Ann Standard, and step-son, Orlan Keith Brooks, Jr.
Survivors include wife, Jean Wilson of Athens; children, Janice Gail McCoy of Poynor, Nolen Edgar Wilson, Jr. of Athens; step-children, Cheryl Elaine Scoma of Azle, Richard Michael Brooks and wife Mary of Crandall; 14 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chase Wilson, Carter Goff, Robert Brooks, Mackenzie Brooks, Glen Conner, and Jonathan McCoy.
On Friday, April 15, 2022, a visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
