Obituary for Merle Devoe Bachelder Jr.
Graveside services for Merle Bachelder are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Hopewell Cemetery located on County Road 837 between Bradford and Brushy Creek.
Merle D. Bachelder, Jr., 87 of Palestine, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in care of his dear friend, Todd Costlow, and hospice.
He was born on July 3, 1934, in Mt. Gilead, Ohio to the late Merle D. and Alice Victoria (Chubb) Bachelder Price. Merle joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 for active duty and later served in the reserves and achieved retirement as Chief Petty Officer on July 3, 1994. He worked at Western Electric/ AT&T from 1957 in machine testing, engineering and supervision until his retirement in 1988. Having those two careers behind him, he spent more time at his farm near Palestine, Texas where “Bach” was fondly known by all for his mechanical and ready-to-fix-know-how and his great stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alice Victoria (Chubb) and Charles Price of Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Merle D. and Jane Bachelder of Galion , Ohio, three children; Merle Allen Bachelder, Linda Diane Bronson (Ohio), and Kimberly Sue Bachelder of Texas and one brother; John W. Bachelder of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
He will be dearly missed by all - his wife, Alice Yates Bachelder, his sister, Jane Bachelder Gillespie and her husband, Ret. USAF Colonel Peter Gillespie of Las Vegas, NV, and Merle's daughter, Kathylynn Bachelder St. Pierre (John) of Worthington, Ohio, his loving nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
