Obituary for Mary Lee Bliss

After crocheting her way to the Pearly Gates, Mary Lee Bliss, 60, of Venus, Texas, who was known as the “Queen of walk-in haircuts”, took Jesus as her first cut in Heaven on September 18, 2023, after passing from complications of a brain aneurism.

A Catholic Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waxahachie with Father James Yamauchi officiating and under the direction of the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mary Lee Bliss was born February 26, 1963, in Biloxi, Mississippi, the daughter of Herbert Lee Bliss and Mary Bernice (Gain) Bliss. She was a dedicated member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Waxahachie, where she enjoyed serving with Father James Yamauchi. She was a member of the Alter Society, served the church as a Sacristan, Lector and Lay Eucharistic Minister. Mary was an avid reader and truly enjoyed crocheting in her free time. She worked at Salon ZaZa in Midlothian, loved being a hairdresser and took great joy in taking care of her clients. She was a loving lady who will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Joyce Bliss, four aunts, Sister Alphonsa Gain, Linda Gain, Lydia Gain and Beth Johnson and husband Bill; her uncle, Charles Eugene Manuel, Tony Gain and Bill Gain.

Survivors include her favorite niece, Jennifer Locke (Jerry) of Athens; nephews Robert Laughery (Joann) of Eustace, Herbert Andrew Bliss (Kristy) of Lone Grove, Oklahoma and Hunter Bliss of West Richland, Washington; her brother Frank Bliss (Mary) of Granbury; brother in law Don Burriss of Ft. Worth; aunts, Henrietta Manuel of Baker, Louisiana, Emma Tarkington (Doug) of Gun Barrel City; great nieces, Brook Locke, Jolene Laughery, Robin Ann Laughery, AnnaBell Bliss; one great nephew Brian Bliss and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
