Obituary for Jean Bourland White

Funeral services for Jean White, 88, of Athens are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Faith Church of Athens with Pastor Ricky Don Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Ms. White went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 31, 2022, in Athens.

Lydia Jean Bourland-White was born April 29, 1934, in Nocona, Texas the daughter of Bill Smith and Violet Mae (McDaniel) Smith. “Maw” was a consummate homemaker who spent her life caring for her husband, her children and her beloved grandbabies. She loved to travel, going out to eat and to go shopping. Granny lived for her family and will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Richard Bourland Sr., Maurice White; two brothers, Garvin Smith, Charlie Smith; one sister, Katherine Martin; two grandchildren, Richard Bourland III, Donnie Smith Jr.; one great granddaughter, Lydia Rose Bourland and son-in-law Donnie Mack Smith Sr.

She is survived by her four children, Betty Jean Humphrey and husband Don of Tolar, Martha Sue Smith of Athens, Ricky Bourland and wife Myrna of Athens, Tammy Stewart and husband Steve of Athens; five grandchildren, Tammy Baker and husband Ammie, Will Smith, Andy Bourland Sr., Josh Stewart and wife Gracie, Brittany Cobb and husband Craig and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Serving as pallbearers will Josh Stewart, Andy Bourland Jr., Andy Bourland Sr., Leonard Smith, Will Smith and Garvin Martin.
