Funeral Services for Luther Rice of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Luther passed away on June 15, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.
Luther Cecil Rice was born August 15, 1952 in Odessa, Texas the son of M.C. Rice and Janie Thomas Rice.
Cecil was well known in the oil field industry. He lived his life as a man that worked incredibly hard to sustain himself and his family. He loved unconditionally and cared with no end in sight. He always met you with a smile and an open heart. He loved fishing, hunting and working on things. He lived by three rules: work hard, love family and never stop trying.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Rice; brother George Allen Turner and sisters Rita Lawley and Faye Rice.
Luther is survived by his wife Patricia Rice; daughter Linda Rice; two sisters, Betty Moulder, Joyce Dowdy; one brother, Roger Rice; two grandchildren, Brent Rice, Destiny Rice; daughter-in-law Kindle Ellis and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 12-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
