Obituary for Loyd Hansford McCool

Loyd McCool, 82, of Athens, passed away on April 10, 2022, in Athens.

Loyd Hansford McCool was born April 4, 1940, in Woodlake, Texas, the son of Charlie Loyd McCool and Mabel John (Trammell) McCool.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Loyd McCool; brothers, Wesley Jo McCool, Harmon “Buddy” Trammell McCool and sisters, Francis Laverne Cox, Zerelda Jane Fogelberg. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a bachelor’s in business and spent over 40 years as an insurance adjuster with General Adjustment Bureau, where he traveled all over the United States working after storms or catastrophes. Loyd was a member of the Virginia Hill Baptist Church of Athens. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing, going on road trips, and flower gardening. Loyd loved spending time with his family and friends, especially at their Father’s Day fish fry. He will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Survivors include wife of 63 years, Cynthia McCool of Athens; children, Chuck McCool and wife Sandra Jane of Grapevine, Alan “Sonny” McCool and fiancé Shannon Spradley of Athens, Cynthia Elizabeth “Cyndi" Cremeans and husband Tom of Athens; sister, Tommy Joyce Hughes of Kaufman; grandchildren, Amanda Jane Crowder and husband Clint, Angela Perry and husband Russ, Melyssa Kriske and husband Joe, Joseph Elisha McCool and wife Karah, Gabrielle Grace McCool; great-grandchildren, Amelia Crowder, Archer Crowder, Adler Crowder, Annabelle Daisy Crowder, Gemma Perry, Ben Perry, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
