Obituary for Lloyd Allen Smith

A Celebration of the Life of Lloyd Smith, 83, of Athens will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Bro. Scott Brown officiating.

Mr. Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 18, 2022, in Athens.

Lloyd Allen Smith was born August 12, 1938, in Henderson, the son of George Reese Smith and Bonnie Lee (Stokes) Smith. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army for several years and was called back up in the US Army Reserves during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Lloyd was a manager of a M.E. Moses store in Mangum, Oklahoma and Longview, Texas for 20 years and then took a job with the Texas Workforce Commission as a supervisor where he helped veterans find employment. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies and grandkids, tinkering around outside in the yard, and planting flowers. “Grand Daddy” loved his family and enjoyed spending time playing with his grandkids. He will be greatly missed by all those he knew and loved.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Sue Weatherford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Patricia “Pat” Smith of Athens; children, Mary Kathryn Smith Niccolai and husband Albert of Palacios, Anthony “Tony” Smith and wife Holly of Plano, Paul Timmins and wife Jacque of Tyler, Michael Timmins and wife Angie of Longview, Stacy Timmins from Fort Worth, Kim Surls and husband Phillip of Athens; brother Guy Smith and his children of Gilmer; grandchildren, Aryn Alexis Smith, Zoe Grace Smith, Kaitlin Mayberry and husband Zach, Klaire Carter and husband Colton, Kelsey Ferguson and husband John, Tanner Timmins, Lynlee Smith and husband Justin, McKena Honnoll, Shelby Surls, Cole Surls and great grandchildren, Everly Ann Smith and Addie Grace Ferguson.
