Obituary for Joyce Ann Hill (Dora)
Services for Joyce Ann Hill, 53, of Athens, are scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Gates Community Church International at 11:00 AM with Apostle Alan Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at North Athens Cemetery under direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Ms. Hill passed away May 23, 2019 in Athens. She was born July 15, 1965 in Athens to John Dora, Jr. and Nettie Faye (Whitehead) Dora. She worked for the State of Texas for 26 years, including 12 years at UT Tyler and 14 years as a Correctional Officer at the Coffield Unit. She attended Gates Community Church International in Athens. She spent time baking, reading and doing word search puzzles, and enjoyed going fishing. Granny Joyce loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Dora, Jr.; and nephew, Mario Faunta Davis.
Survivors include mother, Nettie Faye Dora of Athens; children, Karl Dora and wife Marsha of Athens and Desteney Lewis and husband Carleton of Athens; siblings, John Dora of Austin, Ricky Dora and wife Elree of Athens, Bobby Dora of Athens, Carl Dora and wife LaTinya of Ft. Worth, Patrick Dora and wife Tasi of Killeen, Jeff Mason of Dallas, James Mason of Dallas, Linda Whitehead of Dallas and Teresa Davis and husband Mario of Athens; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; and special friend, Michael Hill of Athens.
Pallbearers will be John Dora, Bobby Dora, Ricky Dora, Carl Dora, Jeff Mason, James Mason and Patrick Dora.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mario Davis, Bobby Ray Whitehead, Willie “Dude” Whitehead, Stacy Whitehead, Jonothan Williams, R.J. Williams, Karl Dora, Jr., D’Untae McGruder and Ca’Mel Lewis.
A visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 10-11:00 AM at the Church.
Funeral services were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
