Obituary for Joyce LaNell Fitzgerald (Stone)
Graveside services for Joyce Fitzgerald, 83, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fitzgerald passed away October 20, 2021 in Athens.
Joyce LaNell (Stone) Fitzgerald was born September 1, 1938 in Athens, the daughter of J.B. Stone and Lottie Georgia (Westberry) Stone. She graduated from Athens High School in 1958 and began working for Curtis Mathes in Athens. Joyce would later work for the Athens Independent School District as a cafeteria personnel before retiring. She was a hard worker who enjoyed traveling and was a lover of animals. Joyce will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam C. Fitzgerald and siblings, Amelia Stone, Elton Stone and Bobbie Schmidt.
Survivors include sisters, Sara Boyte of Athens, Marjorie Gleason and husband Kemper of Athens as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation due to illness in the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athens Animal Rescue Shelter or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
