Obituary for Jerry Wayne Stanfield

Funeral services for Jerry Stanfield, 79, of Trinidad, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Trinidad City Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Stanfield passed away October 23, 2021 in Athens.

Jerry Wayne Stanfield was born April 11, 1942 in Trinidad, the son of Joseph Stanfield and Geraldine (Peters) Stanfield. He served in the United States Navy during the early 1960’s as an EOD. After the military, Jerry worked for Nypack in Trinidad, Big Brown Coal Mine in Fairfield, worked as a police officer with the Corsicana Police Department and served as City Marshall of Trinidad. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hog hunting, had a wonderful sense of humor and had a good time every day, never worrying about tomorrow. Jerry was a wonderful husband, father and ‘Paw Paw’ to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Stanfield; son-in-law, George Corn and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Stanfield.

Survivors include wife of 60 years, Susan Stanfield of Trinidad; children, Deborah Corn of Malakoff, T.W. Stanfield and wife Gail of Kemp, Jerry Stanfield of Trinidad; grandchildren, Cody Speak, Jeremy Speak, Joshua Speak, Stacy Navarro, Jodye Dalrymple, J.B. Stanfield and wife Kelsie, Timothy Stanfield, Jacob Stanfield, Anna Bairfield and husband Kyle and 15 great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Speak, Jeremy Speak, Joshua Speak, Jacob Stanfield, J.B. Stanfield, Kyle Bairfield and Timothy Stanfield.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
