Memorial services for Jere Skiles, 85, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Randy Skiles officiating.
Mr. Skiles passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 in Athens.
Jere Raymond Skiles was born August 4, 1934 in Fruitvale, the son of Thomas Alva Skiles and Minnie (Hendley) Skiles. He was passionate about his sports, especially high school football in which he refereed for a number of years, bowled seven 300 games, achieved six holes-in-one at golf and also played fast pitch softball and baseball. In his later years Jere took great joy in being the Grandad who attended all his grandbabies activities and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martele Davis; brothers, Johnny Skiles and Robert Mastin Skiles and one great granddaughter, Sophie Kay Skiles.
Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret Skiles of Athens; sons, Randy Skiles and wife Mary Dale of Athens and Mike Hembree and wife Lisa of Athens; daughters, Becky, Sharon and Brenda; grandchildren, Scott Skiles and wife Lyndsi of Frisco, Jonathan Skiles and wife Shelby of Tyler, David Skiles and wife Jenny of Tyler, Solomon Skiles and wife Courtney of Athens, Christopher Hembree and wife Denise of Athens, Staci O’Neal of Tyler, Sarah Dye and husband Wesley of Dallas, Jennifer Crane of Athens and Jason Crane of Athens; great grandchildren, Bree, Harper, Ezra, Connor, Devin, Haley, Addison, Karli, Natalie, Jaden, Jackson, Knox, Maxwell, Connor, and one great grandchild on the way as well as numerous nieces, nephews and past in-laws who have remained dear to him throughout the years.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
