Obituary for Jean Dunson (Fergusson)

A Memorial Service for Jean Dunson, 88, of Athens, is scheduled for 2:00 P.M., August 20, 2022, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Jean passed away July 10, 2022, in Athens.

Ima Jean (Fergusson) Dunson was born August 9, 1933, in Hamilton, the daughter of William Claude Fergusson and Ima Cleo (Riley) Fergusson. She graduated from Hamilton High School and married Wallace Nail Dunson, Jr., on November 10, 1951. Together they had four children- Dan, Thomas, Suzette, and Babette. Jean was a homemaker while her children were young and later worked for H&R Block for over 20 years in Lubbock and Burnet. She enjoyed ceramics, puzzles, and reading books during her free time. She was nurturing, loving, and energetic and will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Claudine Barkley.

Survivors include husband of 70 years, Wallace Dunson of Athens; children, Dan Dunson and wife Anna of Lubbock, Thomas Dunson and wife Judy of Lago Vista, Suzette Bordner and fiancé Steve Stewart of Hewitt, Babette Dunham and husband Daniel of Athens; grandchildren, Troy Dunson and wife Shannon, Amy Xu and husband Ang, Aaron Dunson and wife Holly, Joel Dunson, Tyler Dunson, Rhett Bordner and wife Jackie, Cassandra Robinson and husband Caleb, Amanda Frevert and husband Travis, Krista Lannom and husband Blake, Karley Woodrich and husband David; great-grandchildren, McKenna Dunson, Nathan Xu, Natalie Xu, Penelope Dunson, Owen Dunson, Emelia Bordner, Juliana Bordner, Griffin Robinson, Knox Robinson, Kaylee Frevert, Kendall Frevert, Levi Lannom, Avery Woodrich, Daniel Woodrich and Jude Woodrich.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
