Athens - Funeral Services for James Smith of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Kyle Henderson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Quanah Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Smith passed away on February 9, 2019 in Mesquite, Texas.
James R Smith was born August 8, 1942 in Bonham, Texas the son of James Oliver Smith and Ellen Ruth Conway Smith. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports, especially Texas Longhorn Football. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James Smith is survived by one sister Jeannie Shrum and husband Earnest; two brothers, Billy Smith and wife Carla, James D. Smith and wife Linda; one half-brother Cary Flack and wife Anna; several nieces and nephews; special friends Jerry and Carol Cunnigham, Wendy and Randy Rutherford and the many loving neighbors on Lake Athens.
