Graveside services for J W Taylor, 84, of Mabank, are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor passed away on August 15, 2020 in Tyler.
J W Taylor was born August 19, 1935 in Whitewright, Texas, the son of Wilbur P. Taylor and Effie May (Daniels) Taylor. He served in the United States Navy as a commissary chef aboard the ship he was stationed on. After the military, J W would spend his career dedicated to the food industry. He owned Del-Bake Sales in Dallas for 12 years, worked for Sysco Foods as a sales manager for 10 years and served as a manager of Tom Thumb for 17 years. In his free time, J W enjoyed going to garage sales with his wife where they would buy and sell items. He also enjoyed furniture restoration, word seek puzzles, music, watching Nascar and being a Dallas Cowboys fan. His favorite time of the day was 5 o’clock somewhere. J W will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Danny Taylor, Clint Taylor; Guy Byrd and numerous siblings.
J W is survived by his loving wife Julie “Grammy” Taylor of Mabank; three children, Gina Byrd and husband Emmett of Irving, Pam Sanders and Jerry Tilley of Mabank, Larry Byrd and wife Karen of Raleigh, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Daniel Taylor, Cherish Taylor, Autumn Byrd, Cassie Soto, Harlie Rodriguez, Crystal Jones, Colt Murdoch, Cody Byrd, Ashley Byrd; 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 10-11:00 a.m.
