Obituary for Howard Dwight Lamont
Funeral services for Howard Lamont, 87, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Pastor Ben Mott officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Lamont passed away January 26, 2021 in Athens.
Howard Dwight Lamont was born March 19, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Howard John Lamont and Zetra Elsie (Sires) Lamont. He served in the United States Airforce from 1952 until 1956 and was a charter member of the Detroit Church in Detroit, Michigan. Howard worked for Chrysler in their missile division for 17 years and before transitioning to Lockeheed Martin as an electrical engineer for more than 25 years. He played tennis during his free time and also loved to travel, having been to Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Italy.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife, Nelda Lamont of Athens; children, Howard Nolan Lamont of South Carolina, Terri Scarborough of Orange, Lori Mitcham and husband D.R. of China, Texas; son, Joseph Duane McCarver and wife Karole of Athens; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
