Obituary for Harold Wayne Shields

Funeral services for Harold Shields, 86, of Star Harbor, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Malakoff with Bro. Casey Perry and Bro. Jody Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Malakoff Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Shields passed away July 23, 2020 in Waxahachie.

Harold Wayne Shields was born April 24, 1934 in Sardis, Mississippi, the son of Winfred Reed Shields and Anna Beatrice (Williams) Shields. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. Harold began his career with Texas Power and Light and worked with them for over 37 years during their transition to TXU Electric, before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malakoff and served on the board of deacons. Harold was active in his community, participating as a member in the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club and Lions Club and was even voted “Man of the Year” in Mineral Wells. He also previously served as a councilman with the Star Harbor City Council. Harold loved to golf and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who called him “Bampa”. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Walton and Imogene Pennison.

Survivors include loving wife of 64 years, Doris Shields of Star Harbor; children, Cindy Harmon and Gayle of Athens and Cathy Gaeta and Arthur of Waxahachie; siblings, Louise Russell and Jack of Arlington, Betty Perotta and Art of La Porte and Howard Shields and Doris of Pope, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Albert Pennison of La Porte; grandchildren, Jennifer Garcia and Ricky, Allison Sangenito and Mark, Deanna Willmann and Nick and Shane Griffin and Alicia; great grandchildren, Abbi Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Garcia, Ashlynn Sangenito, Bailey Sangenito, Emily Willmann, Brooklyn Willmann and Easton Griffin.

A visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Malakoff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith in Action Outreach, 103 S. Terry St., Malakoff, Texas 75148.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
