Obituary for Geneva Daffner Stelding (Echols)
Graveside services for Geneva Stelding, 92, of Malakoff, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Athens Cemetery with Dale Norris and Andy Glenn officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stelding passed away peacefully January 21, 2021 in Athens, surrounded by her loyal, loving family.
Geneva Daffner (Echols) Stelding was born October 11, 1928, in Upshur County, Texas, the daughter of Clarence Aubrey Echols and Golda Jewel (Ellison) Echols. She worked for a quarter-century at Curtis Mathes in Athens and was a member of the Malakoff Church of Christ. In 1945, she married Gordon DuBose, with whom she had three children: Diane Slaton and her husband, Norman, of Malakoff, Bruce DuBose and his wife, Markey, of Spring and Jeff DuBose and his wife, Nikki, of Athens. Gordon DuBose passed away in 1981, and later, Geneva met Ralph Stelding of Log Cabin, whom she married in 1984 until Mr. Stelding passed away in 2007.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon DuBose; husband, Ralph Stelding and brother, Ronnie Echols.
In addition to her three children, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, R.L. and Olna Mae Lehman of Pollok. Mrs. Stelding also leaves behind grandchildren, Sharla Roberts, Rodney Slaton, Russell Slaton, Dustin and Shanna DuBose, Kara DuBose and Jessica DuBose, as well as great-grandchildren, Trey Roberts, Holden Slaton and Landon DuBose.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Slaton, Russell Slaton, Trey Roberts, Denny Roberts, Holden Slaton, Jason Echols and Dustin DuBose.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Malakoff Church of Christ, 214 N. Martin St., Malakoff, Texas 75148.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
