Obituary for Esthela Carranza

Una misa fúnebre para Esthela D. Carranza de Athens está programada para las 10:00 a.m., Sábado 8 de Agosto del 2020 en la Iglesia Católica de San Eduardo en Athens con el Padre Nolan Lowry oficiando. El sepelio se llevara acabo en el Athens Cemetery siguiendo la misa.

Esthela falleció pacíficamente en casa rodeada de su amorosa familia el 3 de Agosto de 2020 en Athens.

Esthela D. Carranza nació el 5 de Enero, 1953 en Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, México, hija de Manuel Diaz y Margarita Beltrán. Mientras vivía en San Antonio, TX en 1971, encontró al amor de su vida Miguel. Se mudaron a Athens en 1977. Fue miembro de la Iglesia Católica de San Eduardo desde principios de los años 80. Ella siempre fue voluntaria en diferentes áreas de la iglesia, especialmente cuando se trataba de hacer y vender buena comida mexicana para beneficiar a la iglesia. Era una mujer cariñosa que amaba ayudar a otras personas. Desde llevar a la gente a las citas, traducir, proporcionar un lugar para quedarse e incluso ir al hospital en medio de la noche, cuando una madre hispana estaba lista para dar a luz. Ella era fanática de los Texas Rangers, incluso si estuvieran perdiendo todo el tiempo, ¡ese era su equipo! Le gustaba ver programas de juegos en la televisión y viejos shows occidentales. Le encantaba cocinar para su familia. Sus nietos se emocionaban cada vez que ella hacía sus famoso espaguetis o su favorito "huevito con jamón". "Memaw" apreciaba a sus nietos y no dejó ninguno sin apapachar. También era una esposa, madre y hermana amorosa a quienes echaremos mucho de menos por todos los que conocía y amaba.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; dos hermanos, José Díaz y Jesús Martínez; hermana Aurora Martínez; suegra Felipa Cataño y suegro Aniceto Carranza.

A Esthela le sobreviven su amado esposo Miguel Carranza Sr. de Athens; cuatro hijos, Patricia Sánchez y su esposo Aurelio de Athens, Miguel Carranza Jr. y su esposa Patty de Athens, Carmen Delgado de Athens, Felipe Carranza y su esposa Samantha de Athens; cinco hermanos, Margarita Camacho y su esposo José Luis de Athens, Manuel Díaz y su esposa Carmen de Athens, Raúl Díaz y su esposa Angelita de México, Esperanza Díaz de México, Feliciana Martínez de México; siete nietos, Gracie Sanchez, Valeria Sanchez, Tres Carranza, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza, Felipe Gabriel Carranza, Sebastian Delgado y numerosas sobrinas y sobrinos.

Sirviendo como portadores de féretro, Miguel Carranza, Felipe Carranza, Juan J. Carranza, Eladio Carranza, Adrián Carranza, Andrés Carranza, Jorge Díaz y Alejandro Díaz.

Los portadores de féretro honorarios son Manuel Díaz, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza y Sebastian Delgado.

Las visitas se llevarán a cabo de 5 a 7:00 pm con un rosario a las 7:00 pm el Viernes 7 de Agosto del 2020 en la funeraria Hannigan Smith en Athens.



A Funeral Mass for Esthela D. Carranza of Athens is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. Interment will follow at the Athens Cemetery.

Esthela passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 3, 2020 in Athens.

Esthela Carranza was born January 5, 1953 in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico the daughter of Manuel Diaz and Margarita Beltran. While living in San Antonio, TX in 1971, she found the love of her life Miguel. They moved to Athens in 1977. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church since the early 80’s. She was always volunteering in different areas of the church, especially when it came to making and selling good old Mexican food to benefit the church. She was a caring woman who loved helping other people. From giving people rides to appointments, translating, providing a place to stay, and even going to the hospital in the middle of the night when a soon to be Hispanic mom was ready to give birth. She was a Texas Rangers fan, even if they were in the dumps for a long time, that was her team! She enjoyed watching game shows on TV and old Western Shows. She loved cooking for her family. Her grandkids would get excited every time she would make her famous spaghetti or their all-time favorite ‘huevito con jamon”. “Memaw” cherished her grandchildren and did not leave one unspoiled. She was also a loving wife, mother and sister who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jose Diaz and Jesus Martinez; sister, Aurora Martinez; mother-in law, Felipa Cataño and father-in-law, Aniceto Carranza.

Esthela is survived by her loving husband Miguel Carranza Sr. of Athens; four children, Patricia Sanchez and husband Aurelio of Athens, Miguel Carranza Jr. and wife Patty of Athens, Carmen Delgado of Athens, Felipe Carranza and wife Samantha of Athens; five siblings, Margarita Camacho and husband Jose Luis of Athens, Manuel Diaz and wife Carmen of Athens, Raul Diaz and wife Angelita of Mexico, Esperanza Diaz of Mexico, Feliciana Martinez of Mexico; seven grandchildren, Gracie Sanchez, Valeria Sanchez, Tres Carranza, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza, Felipe Gabriel Carranza, Sebastian Delgado and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Miguel Carranza, Felipe Carranza, Juan J. Carranza, Eladio Carranza, Adrian Carranza, Andres Carranza, Jorge Diaz and Alejandro Diaz.

Honorary Pallbearers are Manuel Diaz, Tony Carranza, Milo Carranza and Sebastian Delgado.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
