Obituary for Elizabeth Ruth Costlow

Funeral services for Elizabeth Costlow, 73, of Malakoff, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Bro. Derek Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Malakoff City Cemetery.

Ms. Costlow passed away June 22, 2020 in Tyler.

Elizabeth Ruth (Stokes) Costlow was born February 18, 1947 in Athens, the daughter of Jack Charles Stokes and Allene Couch Stokes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malakoff and was involved in the Ruth Sunday School Class. Elizabeth graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Tyler with a bachelor’s degree in education and taught in the special education department with Eustace High School for 30 years. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, going to The Boats in Louisiana and attending football games that David coached. She also loved being “Maam” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their activities. Elizabeth will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Allene Stokes and brothers, Stephen Shelton and Michael Shelton.

Survivors include children, Gerald Glen Costlow and Linda Miley of Athens, Stacy Dianne Stroede of Seven Points, Joanna Margaret Costlow of Malakoff, John Michael Costlow and wife Jennifer of Corsicana, Donna LaShelle Force and Jerry Adams of Palestine, David Shelton Costlow and wife Caitlin of McKinney; siblings, Laurie Boze and husband Jerry of Kaufman, John Stokes and wife Mary of Flint and Shannon Stokes; grandchildren, Reagan Harris, Brooke Costlow, Randy Force and Elizabeth Costlow and great grandchild Harper Pogue.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cary Costlow, Terry Costlow, Breck Dodd, Brady Holiman and Jared Wilson and Jeff Spivey. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Force, Jerry Adams and Eric Leger.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
