Obituary for Edith Josie Rounsavall

Mrs. Rounsavall passed peacefully from this life April 23, 2020 in Athens.

Edith Josie (Cranford) Rounsavall was born December 6, 1922 in Heber Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph Cranford and Lula (Lemons) Cranford. During WWII, she worked in a defense plant in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She moved to Texas in 1945 and owned a hair salon for many years in the Athens area. After retirement, she took a strong interest and was involved in local politics. At age 90, she helped compile and publish a book about the history of Henderson County from 1929-2012 for the Henderson County Historical Society.

Mrs. Rounsavall is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Cecil Cranford, Oliver Cranford and Noal Cranford; husbands, Thomas McEvoy and J.W. “Dude” Rounsavall; stepson, Martin McEvoy; stepdaughter, Jean Glasgow; grandsons, Richie Hamm, Joe McEvoy, Jr. and Bob Glasgow.

Survivors include brother, Arthur Cranford and wife Ann of Greenbriar, Arkansas; daughters, Dorothy Hamm of Euless and Pam Holland and Joe Michael McEvoy of Athens; stepson, Tom McEvoy and wife Joanie of San Rafael, California; grandchildren, Gina Holland Whatley and husband James of Athens, Jason Hamm and wife Kim of Euless, Dustin McEvoy and wife Kourtney and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henderson County Historical Society, 217 N Prairieville St., Athens, TX 75751.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
