Obituary

Douglas Daniel Hunt was born March 14, 1943 the son of William Wylie Hunt and Ruby Davis Hunt of Tyler, Texas. He passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on October 9, 2019 in Athens, Texas.

He had a huge but humble faith and did not shy away from sharing his love for Jesus with those that he loved. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could bring a laugh out of just about anyone. Although he never published a book, he was a “gifted” writer – penning many stories about his life growing up with his 9 brothers and sisters, as well as writing about what God had done in his life. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening (with an exceptional green thumb), refurbishing old cars and trucks and was also a veteran of the Air Force.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers, Eugene Hunt and Gerald Hunt.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Zoila Salas Hunt; children, Donna Maria Bierwirth, Mandy Marie Thurman, Douglas Daniel Hunt II and Humberto Antonio “Nino” Patch (Irma Linda); grandchildren, Crystal Carbone (Tony), Michael Eoff (Patty), Ashton Hernandez (Carlos), Derrick Merrill, Monica Ford (David), Joshua Thurman, Hunter Thurman, Andrea Elizabeth Williams (Matt), Adelio Nikolai Patch, Apollo Vincenzio Patch as well as numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Olan Hunt, Billy Hunt (Robin) and Danny Hunt (Thelma); sisters, Mavergene Graves, Freda Seibt, Wanda Baskin and Mary Rumbo.

The family welcomes you to attend a mass honoring his life that will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St. Edwards Catholic Church located at 800 East Tyler St. Athens, Texas.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family of Athens.

I met Doug not long ago. I was immediately surprised by his kindness. I liked him because of his simplicity and sincerity. Doug was so natural. I knew he had done everything to make my friend Zoila happy. Both were born to be together. Doug, dear cowboy, rest i peace. Cristina Sanguinetti

My condolences to Doug's wife Zoila and and his family . Doug was like a star in my heart . In the short time I had to know him he influenced me in many ways , his closeness to God and family impressed me , I'm close to God but not like Doug is . I loved his writing skills and the way he wrote cute little stories about his siblings and other family members that he shared with me so that I could paste them into his ancestry on ancestry.com . I enjoyed reading each one as I copied and pasted , he made me happy reading about his life that I didn't get to share in our youth . Doug was and is an inspirational GIFT to me . Just when you think you have learned everything , along comes someone who proves you wrong , that someone was my Cousin Doug , my brother , my heart , you will always have that special place in my heart . Love , your Cousin Geneva M. Hunt
