Obituary for Donal Joe McGee
Services for Donal Joe McGee, 81, of Athens, are scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Curry officiating.
Mr. McGee passed away February 12, 2019 in Athens. He was born January 16, 1938 in Seagraves, Texas to Joe Dan and Myrtle Estelle McGee. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. He began teaching school and coaching both football and girls basketball and has worked with the Kaufman, Eustace and Cross Roads school districts. He owned and operated Dogwood Nursery and previously was the district manager of Wolf Nursery. He was a member of the Lake Athens Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.
Survivors include wife, Nita McGee of Athens; children, Angela Nyberg and husband Mike of Boerne, LaDonna Costlow and husband Terry Lynn of Seven Points and Samuel David Henson and wife Melissa of Eustace; sisters, Carol Sue Tarrant and husband Alan of DeSoto and Sally Compton and husband Charlie of Livingston; grandchildren, Austin Nyberg and wife Robin, Nina Toups and husband Chris, Hanna Nyberg, Tanner Costlow, Riley Henson and Hagen Henson; and one great grandchild, Finn Nyberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
