Obituary for Dewey Theodore Shaw

Funeral services for Dewey Shaw, 87, of Athens, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Cox and Bro. Ray Global officiating.

Mr. Shaw passed away January 28, 2021 in Athens.

Dewey Theodore Shaw was born June 28, 1933 in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, the son of James Ivah Shaw and Jenettie Ann (Pate) Shaw. He married the love of his life, Helen Louise (Stinson) on December 19, 1951 in Nederland, Texas. He was a member of the Virginia Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He served as Present and Past Worthy Patron with the OES, was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners for over 40 years. Dewey retired from Halliburton after 37 years as district manager in Houston. Dewey loved to play golf and enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and woodworking. Pa-Pa took great pride in having a large family and spent as much time as possible with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Henry Shaw, Earnest Bernard Shaw and great grandson, Zakkary Ray Millican.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Helen Shaw of Athens; children, Cathy Reagan and husband Maurice of Athens, Donna Fuller and husband James of Fairfield, Robert Shaw and Alissa Sammons of Manvel; sister, Mary Francis Turney of McAlister, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jason and Tracy Reagan, Robert and Stephanie Reagan, Connie Matthews, Tisha and Melvin Laningham, Mark Ralls, Crissy Walker and Shannon Milligan, Jonathan Shaw, Jessica and Patrick Schultz; 15 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his dog, Pluto.

Visitation will be held prior to the service Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in his memory to the Shriners or Scottish Rites Children’s Hospitals.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
