Obituary for Dana Carroll Dykes

Funeral services for Dana Dykes, 47, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Rev. John Thomas officiating.

Lieutenant Dykes passed on September 22, 2021 in Athens, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer.

Dana Dykes was born July 29, 1974 in Orange, Texas the son of Lanny Dykes and Brenda (Brookshire) Dykes. He was an Athens Police officer for over 14 years and truly loved serving his community. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and tinkering around in his shop. Dana loved spending time with his family, watching movies with his kids and was a great husband, father, son and brother.

He was preceded in death by his father Lanny Dykes and his grandfather Billy Brookshire.

Survivors include his loving wife Jamie Dykes of Athens; one son Mason Dykes of Chandler; two daughters, Aspen Dykes of Nacogdoches, Tristan Dykes of Chandler; mother Brenda Dykes of Tyler; maternal grandmother Marie Brookshire of Tyler and one brother James “Neil” Dykes of Log Cabin.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mason Dykes, Shane Lewis, Tommy Dykes, Ovie Reeves, Jason McEntire, Garrett Stewart, Jason Bosher, William Carlow and Joey Durr.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Henderson County Peace Officers Association Scholarship Fund.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
