Obituary for Clara Louise Frizzell (Bremser)

Funeral services for Clara Frizzell, 91, of Athens, are scheduled for 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Thomas Warnock officiating with interment following at Shelby Chapel Cemetery.

Clara Bremser Frizzell went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Clara Louise (Bremser) was born on February 19, 1930, in New Gulf, Texas, the daughter of Alfred Rhinehart and Lillie-Mae (Rhodes) Bremser. Clara and her family moved to Athens in 1942 where they built the rock house on the Cayuga Highway. She attended and graduated from Cross Roads ISD. In 1952, Clara married “Piccolo” Frizzell and together they had four children. For several years, Clara worked for Athens Cannery, Western Union, and Stirman Drug Store. Among many talents, floral design was a favorite. She attended Buddy Benz School of Floral Design in Houston. She made many beautiful arrangements and corsages while she worked for Flowers by Margurette and Fred’s Flowers, here in Athens. She was a talented seamstress who loved to sew for her family and others. Countless hours were spent sewing baby blankets and bibs for local nursing home residents, and Dallas Veteran’s Hospital. Clara was born to be a caregiver. As a child, she had a gift of caring for others and most of Clara’s childhood was spent tending to the needs of those around her. If she wasn’t taking care of others, she was spending time looking after her family’s farm. Her responsibilities on the farm and dedication to others, led her to seek a career in nursing. After graduating from nursing school, Clara began her nursing career at Henderson County Memorial Hospital and later retired from HCMH in 1993 but continued to nurse and care for others throughout the remainder of her life. Clara went above and beyond with her nursing skills and those that knew her best, describe her as a “nurse to all”. Clara’s heart for her animals was enormous. Her horses, cows, dogs, cats, donkey, and chickens were her family and she loved caring for their every need.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband Nathan Duncan Frizzell and brother William Leroy Bremser.

Survivors include her loving children, Deborah Frizzell of Athens, Crawford Frizzell and wife Cynthia of Tyler, Duncan Frizzell of Athens, Christy Warnock and son-in-law Thomas and two grandchildren Andrea Frizzell and Logan Warnock.

A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Thursday, December 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
