Obituary for Christene Powell Rich
Services for Christene Rich, 90, of Athens, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Ash Baptist Church with Bro. Ryan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Rich passed away June 7, 2020 in Athens.
Lola Christene (Weatherford) Powell Rich was born September 20, 1929 in Athens, the daughter of Clarence Ezekial Weatherford and Georgia Vianna (Gartman) Weatherford. She enjoyed coloring, painting and crocheting. Christene had a tremendous love for children, especially her grandchildren who called her Granny. She was a member of Ash Baptist Church of Athens and in the past, spent time working in home health. Christene will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Louie Elton Powell and John B. Rich; brothers, Delbert Weatherford and Weldon Weatherford; son, Louie Elton “L.E.” Powell, Jr.; daughter, Lola Faye McCown; grandson, Mark Robison and great grandsons, Wesley Scott Kemph and Ryan Robison.
Survivors include daughters, Annie Dickerson and husband Delton of Athens, Carol Christopher and husband Nelson of Athens and Georgia Robison of Mabank; son-in-law, George R. McCown of Gilmer; siblings, Bruce Weatherford of Desoto and Delores Boyd and husband Jerry of Athens; 26 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lance Robison, Adam Hammons, Wesley Dill, James Strange, Gary Kemp, Clarence Brown, Jim Strange and David Weatherford. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewayne Phillips and Glen Robison.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
