Obituary

A come and go visitation is planned for Lynn Travis on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 6-8:00 pm. A private family viewing and graveside service will be held at a later date.

Charles Lynn Travis was born February 7, 1956 just outside of Wills Point TX, the son of Walter Raymond Travis and Ozella Rea Travis. He was a member of Myrtle Springs Baptist church until 1977, when he moved to Athens and joined Modoc Missionary Baptist Church. Lynn surrendered to the ministry and was licensed to preach in 1995 and he considered it his honor and privilege to serve his Lord when needed. His service included acting as assistant pastor at Maranatha Baptist Church in Crandall, and also served as a supply minister at various churches when called upon. At his home church of Modoc, he served to fill the pulpit in the absence of the pastor, and also taught the Adult Sunday School and BTC classes for many years.

Lynn received a BBA in accounting from Texas Eastern University in Tyler in 1979. His career in accounting included positions at various companies, while also maintaining Travis Consulting. He later received an MBA in accounting from Texas A&M Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Kenneth Raymond Travis and brother Dale Travis.

Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Janis Marshall Travis; son Anthony Travis and wife Amanda of Plano; two grandchildren Jackson and Riley Travis; brothers James, Don, Ronnie, and David Travis and several nieces and nephews.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Lynn’s honor to:
The Lewy Body Dementia Foundation
912 Killian Road SW
Lilburn, GA 30047

The family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks for the excellent care and concern shown to Lynn throughout his illness, especially the staffs of Dr. Christopher Johnson, Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Athens, as well as the staff at Bristol Hospice. You are all angels, and we love you.

To my big brother and best friend, we had so many memories together growing up. I will never forget your Christian example to me and your part in leading me to Christ. I am so glad and privileged to have been with you when you left this earth to go be with Jesus and mama and daddy. I love and will always love and miss you, but we will be together again soon.
