Obituary for Charles Wayne Stafford

Athens - Funeral Services for Wayne Stafford of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Glenn Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Stafford Tucker Cemetery in Springfield, Texas.

Mr. Stafford passed December 15, 2018 in Athens, Texas.

Charles Wayne Stafford was born October 26, 1930 in Springfield, Texas the son of John Horace Stafford and Alma Wardell Stafford. He was an active member of the Springfield United Methodist Church for over forty years. He was a founding and dedicated member of the Henderson County Master Gardeners Club, a 16-year member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, a longtime member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Huguenot Organization. Wayne’s most enjoyed hobbies included genealogy and photography. He was a loving husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jim Stafford.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Irene Stafford of Athens; two sons, Steve Stafford and wife Tammy of Sayre, Oklahoma, Randall Stafford and wife Jenny of Bentonville, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Stafford of Athens, Fayrene Hillhouse of Carroll Springs; niece Sherry Hair and husband Jimmy; nephew Darrell Hillhouse and wife Kendall and three grandchildren, Colby Keiner, Kylee Stafford and Bailey Bomar.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 9-10:00 a.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the Springfield United Methodist Church, the Stafford Tucker Cemetery or a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Randy Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, Mike Phifer, Ray Kidd, Randy Daniel and Darrell Hillhouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Luna and Bobby Glass.
