Obituary for Charles Elwyn Lansdale
A Memorial Visitation for Charles Lansdale, 74, of Athens will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Friday, February 25, 2022, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Lansdale passed away on February 19, 2022, in Athens.
Charles Elwyn Lansdale was born May 10, 1947, in Gilmer, the son of Charles Lansdale and Bobbie (Wheeler) Lansdale. He graduated from Kilgore College with an Associate’s Degree before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. He served during Vietnam, was injured in action and received a purple heart before being honorably discharged in 1969. Mr. Lansdale worked with Atmos Energy for over 40 years and he enjoyed flint knapping (making arrowheads), hunting and fishing. “Papa” was a loving father, brother and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all those he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Linda Lansdale; son Charles “Bubba” Lansdale and brother Tommy Lansdale.
Charles is survived by his children, Dana Bailey of Athens, Colt Lansdale of Athens; siblings, Jerry Lansdale and wife Nicohle of Athens, Shirlie Rankin and husband Sammy of Hughes Springs; grandchildren, Preston Lansdale, Harley Bailey, Ty Henderson, MJ Henderson and great granddaughter, Hazel Lansdale.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
