Carolyn “Sue” Lewis was born March 5, 1938 in Amarillo, the daughter of Ura Lloyd Lewis and Wynona (Sanders) Lewis. She managed various motels in Athens for many years and enjoyed reading and cooking. Known as “Dubo” to her nieces and nephews, Sue treasured being an aunt and had tremendous love for them, especially the babies. She also adored her pets, Dj, Charlie, Flash and Tommy, who have been close by her side. Sue will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; niece, Wendy Kaye Newman, sister, Era Maresh and her husband Jerry; and brother-in-law, Loye Edwin “Burr” Kinabrew.
Survivors include siblings, Patricia Kinabrew of Athens, Raymond and Connie Lewis of Ennis, Kaye and Bill Newman of Cross Roads and Vicki and Dan Mandeville of Athens; nieces and nephews, Cheryl Wells of Rockwall, Michael and Susan Maresh of San Antonio, Kevin Kinabrew of Hobbs, New Mexico, Karen Thomason of Athens, Scott and Delana Newman of Cross Roads, John and Jennifer Petty of North Carolina, Jay Newman of Tyler, Ross and Michele Thomason of St. Joseph, Missouri, Kristi and Tracy Holder of Athens, Suzanne Lewis of Austin, Mateo and Ivette Newman of Athens, Jon Lewis of Ennis and numerous great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Newman, Ross Thomason, Tracy Holder, Dustin Holder, Mateo Newman, Kevin Kinabrew, Jake Blanton and Tommy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Lewis, Michael Maresh, James Lester Kinabrew, John Petty, Jay Newman and Colton Holder.
