Carolyn Goodman, 80, of Athens, passed away on December 28, 2021, in Athens. She will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Oaklawn Memorial Park of Athens under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Carolyn Joyce (Baker) Goodman was born October 9, 1941, in Dallas, the daughter of Charles Baker and Winnie Jo (Goin) Parish. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Athens and loved her Sunday school class. Carolyn was creative by nature and talented in many areas including restoring old homes, decorating her home, collecting antiques and teaching Tole painting classes for many years. Nana will be remembered as an independent (sarcastic) and fun-loving (quick witted) woman who supported her family through good times and bad. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bill Baker.
Survivors include children, Connie Kline of Tyler, Rachel Geary of Hensonville, New York, Gina Brown of Quinlan, Jan Boyd and spouse Ben of Athens; grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Katie Brown, Tony Johnson and spouse Jack O’Brien, Joanna Johnson, Brandon Boyd and spouse Candice; and great grandchildren, Gracie Brown, Jayse Brown, Jacob Lowrey and one on the way (Hadley Boyd).
A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, or, to any organization supporting Alzheimer’s research.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Melba Edwards for her incredible love and care of their mother.
