Obituary for Carmen Palomar (Escarcha)
A visitation for Carmen Palomar, 96, of Athens (formerly of Chicago, Illinois), will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Chicago, Illinois and will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
Mrs. Palomar passed away November 4, 2020 in Athens.
Carmen (Escarcha) Palomar was born May 1, 1924 in La Paz, Iloilo City, Philippines, the daughter of Marcelino Escarcha and Adela Gonzales. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Chicago, Illinois and earned a Doctor of Pharmacology from St. Augustine University in Iloilo City, Philippines and served the same school for over 20 years as the Dean of Students. Carmen worked for over 20 years at the Illinois Masonic Hospital and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago, Illinois before retiring. She enjoyed playing solitaire and loved watching her beloved baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Carmen loved her family and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Jose A. Palomar and three sisters.
She is survived by her children, Joemen Palomar and wife Lisa of Chicago, Illinois, Joselynne Palomar Scheen of Athens, Cherylle Palomar Warnecke and husband Terry of St. Louis, Missouri, Jose E. Palomar, Jr. of New York City, New York and grandchildren, Jolene Marie Manlapaz and Jonathan Manlapaz.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
